Alex has represented a wide range of individuals and businesses, from small business owners and tech start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Alex has gained a wealth of experience managing large discovery projects, drafting and arguing dispositive and discovery motions in court, and negotiating settlement agreements on behalf of his clients. Prior to entering private practice, Alex served as a judicial clerk to Judge Charles P. Kocoras and Philip G. Reinhard of the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Experience

Antitrust Litigation

  • Litigated novel issue of antitrust injury in the District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of two opt-out plaintiffs in multi-district class action price manipulation case.
  • On behalf of hospital bringing monopolization and conspiracy claims against competitor in the District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, submitted Daubert briefing arguing for exclusion of economic expert testimony, and argued that plaintiff suffered constitutional and antitrust injury in response to motion for summary judgment.
  • Analyzed thousands of documents and numerous deposition transcripts in support of insurance company plaintiff’s monopolization and conspiracy claims arising from competitor’s use of Most Favored Nations clauses with healthcare providers in the District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Labor and Employment Litigation

  • Assisted drafting amicus brief in the Illinois Court of Appeals regarding enforceability of non-compete provisions under Illinois law.
  • Defended former employees who started competing third-party logistics company against claims of trade secret misappropriation and breach of fiduciary duty in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division.
  • Defended former employees who started competing commercial real estate investment company against breach of fiduciary duty claims in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division.
  • Defended former employees who started competing soft tissue transplant company from trade secret misappropriation and breach of fiduciary duty claims in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division.

Complex Commercial Litigation

  • Represented residential real estate developer in dispute for control of townhome owners’ association, culminating in a full victory for the client after a three-day bench trial in the Circuit Court of DuPage County, Chancery Division.
  • Represented commercial lending company in dispute with staffing company alleging breach of contract and fraud due to staffing company’s failure to provide employees with proper immigration status in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division.
  • Analyzed thousands of documents and submitted several discovery and dispositive motions on behalf of post-graduate school accused of violating the False Claims Act in the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Secured favorable settlement on behalf of over-the-road transportation company alleged to have violated the Carmack Amendment.

Pro Bono

  • Defeated motion for summary judgment on behalf of former employee alleging race discrimination against former employer in the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, leading to a successful settlement.
  • Defeated motion for summary judgment on behalf of former employee alleging discrimination on the basis of disability against her former employer in the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Represented inmate alleging deliberate indifference to a serious medical need under Section 1983.
